When you get there, they have a craft do, this week it was butterflies. Then you take a short walk and sit and sing songs, then you get your "bug box" and go on the hike.
All well and good however, Owen has a strict policy against doing any sort of craft and/or sitting in a circle with a group of people. Flat out REFUSES to partake! So out of the 90 minute class, half of the time, is me trying to convince Owen (without any luck) that the crafts and circle time is fun or I'm chasing after him as he runs away yelling "no thank you, no thank you". Neither of which do I enjoy.
The teacher (Teacher Jamie is her name) then gives a group of two year olds, a bug box and tweezers to collect bugs and leaves with. This is fantastic and a huge hit. Except Teacher Jamie wants to go on her hike now, while all the kids are crouched down trying with all their might to pick something, ANYTHING up with tweezers!!!! So she heads off about half mile ahead of us as I try to show Owen how tweezers work. Not as easy as it sounds!
Here's Owen proudly showing off his bug box.
One leaf and a 5 minute sprint later (pregnant, carrying Owen, a bug box and a camera) we catch up with Teacher Jamie at the creek and Owen walks right in. I had brought him his water shoes, but I hadn't even set him down and caught my breath before Teacher Jamie is tossing plastic ducks and frogs on leashes into the water. If you know Owen, you know the kid LOVES anything on a leash, the kid will tie up a cup and drag it around the house and call it his kitty-cat. But the point is, I had no hope in changing the kid into water shoes, he was in the water the minute his feet hit the ground.
