24 Weeks

I'm 24 weeks along and man is this pregnancy going fast! I have to say it's a bit different this time around.

Toni and I did Camp Go a little over a week ago and although we had a blast, I was flat out EXHAUSTED! I really do have a new respect for working moms....I couldn't do it. Granted running an adventure day camp is not your typical desk job, but when I came home all I wanted to do was shower and sleep and poor Owen just wanted me to play and hold and love him. And of course I did, because I missed that little guy all day, every day I was gone. I don't know how those who work all day do it...come home, cook dinner, play, bathe the kid, and put the him down by a decent hour. Owen's bed time is between 7:30-8:00pm and he was up to at least 9:00/9:30pm all week, because I honestly just couldn't get all done in time. Then I'd go to bed and I felt like would just as I closed my eyes, it was time to get up.

We all survived! Owen loved having Grandma Claudia to play with all day and I knew I didn't have to worry about him at all, which makes doing camp all that easier.

Anyway, we're getting ready for baby brother and although we still have about four months, I know it's going to be here before I know it, so I'm preparing early. We've officially moved Owen into his new room and now I'm organizing all the baby, baby stuff so that we know what have and what we need, well in advance!

Here's the 24 week belly:

Owen- gotta love him!

Back at the Creek

We had a mini heat wave, so we took Jack and Owen down to the creek for a swim. They both loved it! We quickly realized that we need to strip Owen down if we wanted go anywhere else today.
Hot momma....or should we say sweaty momma!
Drying off after the swim. I love that Owen and Matt have the same strut!
We then played at the park for a bit.

Success!

So the transition to the big boy bed has been totally painless! Matt put him down as normal (books, chat, kisses, leaves) the past two nights, and I've done the same for the past two naps and the kid lays down and goes to sleep! I'm totally shocked and impressed!

We also had a little conversation about his crib moving onto his baby brother, this also went surprisingly well:
US (me & Matt): Where is baby brother going to sleep when he gets here?
Owen: In my crib. (Matt & I stared at each other in shock!)
US: Where are you going to sleep?
Owen: In my big boy bed (and we say to each other in unison "Did you teach him that?").

Very exciting!
See how cute he is sleeping in his BIG BOY BED!

While my mom was here last week, they went shopping for baby brother and ever since then, we have to buy something for baby brother in every store. We've made HUGE progress lately!

Woo Hoo!

2 for 2 in the big boy bed!

On Saturday night Owen suddenly wanted to sleep in his big boy bed. We have only tried once before and since that didn't go very well, we've stuck to the crib ever since. But Matt decided that if wants to try again, then let's try again. I was not so optimistic! I really love how easy Owen has been to put down the last year and I'd hate to rock that blissful boat.

We set the timer per usual and I was nervous because Owen started saying "I don't want to go nite-nite" which he has NEVER said. They went in and read books and then when it was time to lay down, he started to say "I don't want to go nite-nite" again (I started to panic)! Matt decided to lay down with him and after about 45 minutes of moving around and trying to get Matt's attention (who kept with the mantra "close your eyes, it's nite-nite time") he finally fell asleep. AND he slept until 6:15am and woke up with a big proud smile on his face (sounds early, but that's standard around here)!

So at nap time today, I was up and I was nervous. I don't have the patience that Matt has in these situations and I've been so freakin' tired lately that I thought I'd fall asleep and Owen would slide down the slide and start to play and I'd wake up hours later to humongous mess. However, we did our routine and I layed down with him and after about 15 minutes he was asleep. Clearly not in a deep sleep, because every time I went to get up he'd put me in a head lock and say "lay down mom-mom"! Finally I broke loose and he briefly woke up, but I just patted his back and said "nite-nite" and left. He slept for well over 3 hours!

Our challenge for tonight and tomorrow is to NOT lay down with him, that's a habit I don't want to have to break. He likes his bed and he likes to sleep, so I'm hoping it'll go smoothly.

Wish us luck!

One of Owen's favorite things....

We decided to get this on video (well Matt decided) because it is truly one of Owen's favorite things to do! He pushes this damn car around for 10 minutes at a time, going around and around the back patio. It's even more fun (to Owen only) when he puts one of Jack's treats in the back and Jack chases him around trying to get the treat. And doubly fun (again to Owen only) when he chases Jack with the car and Jack frantically tries to get away. The rule is that if he touches Jack with the car, Jack goes in the house, which translates into Jack always ends up back in the house (to Jack's complete relief).

Poor Jack is getting old and we really are starting to see signs of it! He sleeps more, he gets sore after a session of ball throwing and is just overall slower. It's so sad.

The video doesn't have Jack in it, because he had already been sent in. It's really not particularly exciting, but it really brings the kid such joy!

And just a cute picture of him enjoying his day!

Happy Anniversary!

Today is Matt and my 9th Wedding Anniversary! Very exciting!

It falls on a Wednesday this year, so to celebrate, Owen and I went down the San Jose Children's Museum, it's such a fun place and so much to do. Every time we go we do something we hadn't done before. We had a fantastic morning, followed by a 4 hour nap (yep, both of us)!!

Then met Dad out for some dinner at Hola's Mexican food, one of our favorite places. We had a lovely anniversary! Grandma Claudia arrives on Saturday, so we'll go out to dinner and movie then, but I can't complain, I had a wonderful day.

More fun games with Dad & Owen!

Just another little game that Matt and Owen play!

Caterpillar Club

We tried out a new class called the Caterpillar Kids Club. It's a really cute idea, it takes kids (& their parents) to local parks, beaches, trails to hike and explore the area. Owen loves to be outside and especially walk through woods and trails and water, so of course I thought this would be a perfect morning for us!

When you get there, they have a craft do, this week it was butterflies. Then you take a short walk and sit and sing songs, then you get your "bug box" and go on the hike.

All well and good however, Owen has a strict policy against doing any sort of craft and/or sitting in a circle with a group of people. Flat out REFUSES to partake! So out of the 90 minute class, half of the time, is me trying to convince Owen (without any luck) that the crafts and circle time is fun or I'm chasing after him as he runs away yelling "no thank you, no thank you". Neither of which do I enjoy.

The teacher (Teacher Jamie is her name) then gives a group of two year olds, a bug box and tweezers to collect bugs and leaves with. This is fantastic and a huge hit. Except Teacher Jamie wants to go on her hike now, while all the kids are crouched down trying with all their might to pick something, ANYTHING up with tweezers!!!! So she heads off about half mile ahead of us as I try to show Owen how tweezers work. Not as easy as it sounds!

Here's Owen proudly showing off his bug box.

One leaf and a 5 minute sprint later (pregnant, carrying Owen, a bug box and a camera) we catch up with Teacher Jamie at the creek and Owen walks right in. I had brought him his water shoes, but I hadn't even set him down and caught my breath before Teacher Jamie is tossing plastic ducks and frogs on leashes into the water. If you know Owen, you know the kid LOVES anything on a leash, the kid will tie up a cup and drag it around the house and call it his kitty-cat. But the point is, I had no hope in changing the kid into water shoes, he was in the water the minute his feet hit the ground.

Exhibit A:

Our friends Leigh and Sam enjoying the creek walk:Owen is patiently waiting his turn to get a duck on a leash:Decides to throw rocks instead:So all in all, a cute idea, that we're not quite ready for! Wet, hungry and tired home went!

Funny Things

Owen has started doing and saying some really funny things! Here are two of my favorites from last week.

ONE:
One of his favorite things to do, is to pretend he's a cat. He'll crawl and meow and curl up on your lap and ask you to pet him. A little strange, but we're hoping it's just a common phase. Well, the other day we were leaving the gym and as we were walking out, he went up the bench and lifted his leg, then walked a few more steps and lifted his leg again to the fence. I asked him what he was doing and he had a very direct answer: "the kitty cat's peeing" and he continued to pee on things all the way to car!!

TWO:
He was taking a bath and put the wash rag on the edge of the tub and we then had the following conversation:

Owen: Want to have a picnic?
Me: Sure! A picnic sounds great!
Owen: That's a good idea?
Me: That's a great idea.
Owen, looking a little annoyed: Then give me knucks!

And there he is sitting with his little fist extended out, waiting for me to "give him knucks"! It was hysterical. We don't give "knucks" often, (it's like a high five, with your fists, if you don't know) but apparently it's expected when you have a good idea!

Then we had our bathtub picnic!
