5 Months Old

Time is such a strange thing. On one hand it seems like yesterday that Nathan joined our family, that there is no way FIVE whole months have come and gone. On the other hand how could it be only five months ago when I feel like he's been here forever! 5 months ago feels like ages ago and 10 minutes ago simultaneously.

Nathan Henry is the happiest baby I've ever seen. Even if he's sick or really mad you can still always and easily make him smile. Whenever I go get him from his crib, he instantly stops crying and smiles, as if to say "Oh thank goodness, you heard me, I'm so glad you're here!"

I love him to pieces. Itty bitty pieces.

He had his 5 month appointment lately and here are his official stats:

  • 17.7 lbs

  • 26 inches long

His unofficialy stats:

  • He wears 6 month plus clothes.

  • He sleeps well at night, usually from 6:30pm - 7am getting up between 4-5am to eat.

  • He takes 3 or 4 naps a day. Still 30 minutes long, unless we snuggle on the couch.

  • He laughs if you tickle his arm pits or kiss his neck.

  • He is working hard on crawling but has no desire to sit up unassisted.

  • He still loves that doorway jumper and little interest in the playmat (except trying escape it).

Bathtime-a new challenge

So now that Nathan is determined to crawl and climb, his bath has become quite a challenge.

Brothers

There are moments when they are not this cute. Times when Owen yells "I don't want Nathan to look at me" or "he's touching me" and "that's my toy"!

But there are lots of times like these:

Where they snuggle up.

Play toys (a little overload, maybe?).

And read books (Owen did NOT want the camera on him.):

Getting Ready to MOVE!

Nathan is working real hard to crawl. You can't put him down without him instantly rolling over and pushing up onto all fours. He moves all around his crib at night and is never in the same place or even facing the same direction! He can scoot and roll all over, but he's getting closer and closer to actually crawling. It won't be long!

This was the first time I actually caught it on film.

Then yesterday I walked out to get something and came back to THIS (I just caught the tale end of it!):

I ALWAYS put him on the playmat, see where that is and where he is!!! I was out of the room for about 60 seconds MAX! The boy is ready to GO!

Potty Training--STILL

Honestly, I thought it would just click for Owen. That one day he'd just decide to use the toilet. Apparently not. We decided to ditch the diapers and not look back about two weeks ago. He wears a pull up for at school, the gym (both require it) and then again at nap and bedtime, we free-ball it the rest of the time.

We have LOTS of accidents. LOTS. It's not fun.

Yesterday, we had a mini break through. After his nap, he ASKED to take his pull up off. Usually, that's a fight. Then he proceeded to tell me BEFORE he had to pee and went the whole afternoon without a single accident. Then he and Nathan were in the bath and he asked to use the potty again. He pooped!!!!

Today didn't go so well, he peed his pants all. day. long! Then after dinner, he asked to use the potty twice. And did!

I'm hoping this is the beginning of the end.

Smilers!

I am finally getting Nathan's GIANT grins on camera! I seriously think that his cheeks have to hurt at then end of each day from smiling so much! He truly is the stereotypical "happy baby" and I love it!
But OH MY GOD the drool!!!

Good Deals=Fun Times

We scored a fantastic deal recently: a full year's membership at the Oakland Zoo for only $40!! It's an amazing deal because it includes admission for all four of us, parking, ride tickets and discounts at the gift shop and cafe. We had a membership about two years ago and Owen LOVES the zoo, so we'll get lots of great use out of it!

I couldn't get this picture to rotate this picture for some reason, but it's still super cute!

Uncle Joe

Uncle Joe is planning a visit! I called him the other day to firm up our plans and Owen was eating dinner at the time. I hung up and went to give Nathan his bath. A few minutes later, Owen comes into the bathroom with a rubber stamp and RED stamp pad....stamping his entire length of his arms.

ME: Oh my gosh, what are you doing?
OWEN: I'm stamping my arms like Uncle Joe!
ME: What?
OWEN: I want to be like Uncle Joe, see, like his stamps!

Uncle Joe has tattoos all up his arms. Owen last saw Uncle Joe at Thanksgiving, we haven't looked at pictures or ever even talked about Uncle Joe's tattoos. But Owen remembers. And now has tattoos like him! Nice.

Here's a video. It's not great, but you get the idea.
