Mommy Rage

My mom, Joe and Cash came to visit for Owen's birthday party. We went to the San Jose Children's Discovery Museum, which is amazing fun and I'm still kicking myself for forgetting my camera.

The highlight of the day however, was not the fun water room or bubble extravaganza or the precious little farmers market or ball blowing machines it was the crazy lady at the fire engine that I nearly had to knock out!

Here's the story:
There is a set of stairs that leads up to the fire engine, has a platform to to get into the cab of the fire engine and then goes down the other side. There was a woman up there with her two kids (probably 5 and 8 years old). She was blocking the platform so that no one else could get into the cab. Owen climbs up, I am right behind him. He's tiny and can squeeze past the woman. I am not as tiny and say "Excuse me, I need to get past so my son doesn't fall down the stairs." The woman does not move and literally just stares at me as if she's a mute.

Owen then proceeds to nearly tumble down the stairs. I push past her to grab him. He's fine, crying but not hurt and stops crying before we're at the bottom of the stairs. I shoot the woman a dirty look and tell Owen it's too crowded up there right now and we head off to something else.

Now if you pause here in the story, I'm already annoyed with the lady because A) I certainly would have moved to let other's in, B) if a two year old were going to fall down stairs, I would without a doubt in my mind, lunge to catch him and/or help, and C) if I had not done A or B, I would have said "Oh my gosh, is he ok? I'm so sorry!" But whatever, there is plenty to do in this place and so we move on.

About 5 minutes later, the woman comes up to me and says, "You should watch your kid better."

This is were I turn blind with rage! I can feel my blood boil and I cannot think straight. This is the rest of the conversation:

Me: I had to push past you to get to him.
Her: I didn't push anyone.
Me: Please don't talk to me.
Her: I don't waste my time with people like you.
Me: Then stop talking to me!

And I walk away.

I realize that I didn't have any witty comebacks or even made any good sense, but I'm telling you I was about to explode. I honestly, was insane with rage and could only walk away. I cannot remember ever being so pissed.

Oh well, the only thing that makes me feel better is that we were leaving and had a wonderful morning. She had just arrived and I hope her day was ruined!
